From the 2022-2023 season, Rugby Club Wageningen will participate with a team in the social competition, in order to be able to offer something to those who would like to play a game now and then. The social competition is a competition that should not really be called that. On the website of Rugby NL there is a nice piece with a video explaining the concept. In short, these are friendly matches on Saturdays, where prior to the game with the opponent it is determined which adapted rules will be used – for example 2×30 minutes with uncontested scrums. It is also possible to play with fewer players, so that it is easier to get a team on its feet.

The Social Team of RCW (whose shirts are sponsored by RC Roetert) will play against six other teams. As with the TBM days, there will be played at a different club each time. It is not about winning (after all, no scores are kept) but about being able to throw a ball and the fun afterwards. Although the game is not about the score, two competition elements will be introduced next season, namely which club knows how to cook the best and a ranking will be kept of the most social club (1 point per player at an away game). . Since no one wants to be at the bottom of these rankings, this will only benefit social competition.

Who is the Social Team for? For anyone with a little rugby experience (and at least a social player card) who still wants to throw a ball now and then and is not afraid of physical contact, but who, for whatever reason, cannot train or play that often in the regular competition.
