During halftime of the Netherlands-Spain rugby international, the artificial turf of the national rugby center was filled with the purple and black shirts of Wageningen and Alkmaar (joined by RC Amsterdam). Last year, the Wageningen T1 touch rugby players won the national championship at the Olympic Stadium, exactly 30 years after the RCW women’s team’s last national title. It was therefore no surprise that Rugby Netherlands had asked the Wageningen T1 men and women for a demo. The Alkmaar squads (both clubs formed two teams each and played a match on each half of the pitch) looked a bit older than the Wageningen ones but proved to be perfectly at home on the stadium’s artificial turf. Nevertheless, both RCW teams proved to be stronger, although the score in touch rugby isn’t the most important thing. There were also many RCW members in the stands, but the players of the afternoon were Peter R, Reijer, Jelle, Stephanie, Rein, Thor, Braden, Ad, Patatje, Gijs, Daan, Richard, and captain Husky.
