Tijdens de rust van de rugbyinterland Nederland-Spanje stroomde het kunstgras van het nationaal rugbycentrum vol met paarse en zwarte shirts van Wageningen en Alkmaar (aangevuld met RC Amsterdam). De Wageningse T1 touchrugbyers wonnen vorig jaar in het Olympische stadion het landskampioenschap, precies 30 jaar na het laatste landskampioenschap van de dames van RCW. Het was dan ook geen verrassing dat Rugby Nederland de Wageningse T1 dames en heren had gevraagd voor een demo. De Alkmaarse equipes (beide clubs vormden ieder 2 teams en speelden dus op elke veldhelft een wedstrijd) oogde wat ouder dan de Wageningse maar bleken op het kunstgras in het stadion prima uit de voeten te kunnen. Toch bleken beide RCW teams sterker te zijn, hoewel de score in touchrugby niet zo belangrijk is. Ook op de tribunes waren veel RCW-érs aanwezig maar de spelers van de middag waren Peter R, Reijer, Jelle, Stephanie, Rein, Thor, Braden, Ad, Patatje, Gijs, Daan, Richard en captain Husky. Het NRCA avontuur krijgt een vervolg met de tweede Friday Night Touch Tour naar België eind februari en het nationaal kampioenschap T1 rugby op 31 mei in het Olympisch stadion.
During halftime of the rugby international between the Netherlands and Spain, the artificial turf of the National Rugby Centre was flooded with purple and black shirts from Wageningen and Alkmaar (joined by RC Amsterdam). Last year, the Wageningen T1 touch rugby players won the national championship at the Olympic Stadium, exactly 30 years after the last national title of the RCW women’s team. It therefore came as no surprise that Rugby Netherlands had invited the Wageningen T1 ladies and men to give a demonstration of T1 rugby. The Alkmaar squads (both clubs each formed two teams and therefore played a match on each half of the field) looked somewhat older than the Wageningen side, but proved perfectly capable on the stadium’s artificial turf. Nevertheless, both RCW teams turned out to be stronger, although the score in touch rugby is not the most important thing.
There were also many RCW supporters in the stands, but the players of the afternoon were Peter R, Reijer, Jelle, Stephanie, Rein, Thor, Braden, Ad, Patatje, Gijs, Daan, Richard, and captain Husky.
The NRCA adventure will continue with the second Friday Night Touch Tour to Belgium at the end of February and the National T1 Rugby Championship on May 31 at the Olympic Stadium.
