De Friday Night Touch ging in het laatste weekend van februari met enkele touchrugby vrienden van de Wasps (en 2 Obelixers) op trip naar het Belgische Heusden-Zolder. Onder de naam Gelderse Grizzlys bezochten ze met 26 spelers Rugbyclub 9 dat een beer als logo heeft. Na de heenreis op vrijdagmiddag werd op grondige wijze de kwaliteit van de Belgische horeca onderzocht. Zodat met gevulde magen op een winderig en koude zaterdagmiddag 2 Wageningse teams & een combi Wasps-Obelix-Wageningen tegen twee teams van Rugbyclub 9 rugbyden. De teams van RC9 bestonden uit kinderen van 8 jaar tot 65 jaar en waren goed opgewassen tegen het paarse touchrugby. Ondanks dat het bij touchrugby niet gaat om winnen bleek het Gelderse mix team het sterkst. Volgens de Heusden-Zolders gazet was het een ludiek gebeuren, Na afloop was er een prima Italiaanse maaltijd en werd er flink gezongen met de Belgen. Aansluitend werd het onderzoek van de Belgische horeca voortgezet in de binnenstad van het nabijgelegen Hasselt. U begrijpt dat het voor de Friday Night Touch een prima afsluiting was van een mooi weekend. Dank dan ook aan de organisatie (Peter, Jan, Larissa, Sandra, Rik en Patatje) en onze gastheren!
A Great Touch Trip to Belgium
During the last weekend of February, the Friday Night Touch group went on a trip to the Belgian town of Heusden-Zolder with several touch rugby friends from the Wageningen Wasps (and two players from the Obelix club). Under the name Gelderse Grizzlys, a group of 26 players visited Rugbyclub 9, a club whose logo features a bear.
After traveling on Friday afternoon, the group thoroughly investigated the quality of Belgian hospitality venues. With full stomachs, two Wageningen teams and a combined Wasps–Obelix–Wageningen team played touch rugby against two teams from Rugbyclub 9 on a windy and cold Saturday afternoon.
The RC9 teams included players ranging in age from 8 to 65 years old and proved more than capable opponents for the purple-clad touch rugby players. Even though winning is not the main goal in touch rugby, the Gelderland mixed team turned out to be the strongest.
According to the Heusden-Zolder Gazette, it was a cheerful and entertaining event. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed an excellent Italian meal and there was plenty of singing together with the Belgians.
The investigation into Belgian hospitality continued later that evening in the city center of nearby Hasselt. As you can imagine, it was a perfect ending to a wonderful weekend for the Friday Night Touch group.
