Dutch women’s rugby started in Wageningen. The first women’s team was founded at RC Wageningen, and in 1975, during the 1st lustrum of RC Wageningen, the first official women’s match in the Netherlands was played against Eindhoven. Wageningen won 4-0. In the following years (’83, ’84 & ’85) we even became national champions.

Successes have also been achieved in recent years. In the 2021-2022 season we became champion in the 3rd division and promoted to the 2nd. In a good season (2022-2023) in the 2nd division we managed to win a lot again. By enforcing a top-4 place, we promoted again! In season 2023-2024 we will therefore play in the 1st division.

Along with these successes, our player numbers are growing. In order to allow everyone to play, we will be collaborating with our rugby friends from Eindhoven in the 2023-2024 season. They have just a little too few players for a team, we have too many for one team and this way we can help each other. This second team will be called the Purple Lions and will play in the 2nd division.

We are a mixed team: students and non-students, Dutch or international, everyone is welcome! We train every Tuesday and Thursday and often have a drink in the clubhouse afterwards. We also try to train with the Purple Lions twice a month. Our games are on Sunday. After the games we always celebrate a third half with the opponent, where we designate a ‘Woman of the match’ from both teams and sing songs, including the Club song. In addition, we also have social activities, such as a team weekend, Christmas dinner and we go on a trip abroad with the whole club. Does this appeal to you? Come by to train with us and hopefully we’ll see you on the field soon!
