Op zondag 1 oktober speelden de dames en heren de tweede competitiewedstrijd van het seizoen.
Heren
Het herenteam speelde op een zonovergoten Zoom tegen G.S.R.C., de Groninger Studenten Rugby Club. In de eerste 20 minuten schoot Wageningen flink uit de slof en stond het al snel 13-0. Maar al snel begon het spannender te worden en kroop de tegenstander terug, waarbij gaandeweg vermoeidheid de Wageningse heren ook wat parten leek te spelen. Na de rust was het lange tijd 16-14, maar de Groningers wisten nog één keer hun krachten te verzamelen en duwden in een gruwelijke maul de bal over de achterlijn. Daarmee werd de eindstand 16-21. Gelukkig was er een mooie derde helft, met een mooie maaltijd door de Sunday Dinner commissie en WK op groot scherm. Volgende week beter!
Dames
Ondanks enkele blessures en teamgenoten die het rugby WK in Frankrijk bezochten, stonden er nog steeds twee teams klaar voor een mooie rugbydag. The Purple Lions vertrokken al vroeg met 15 dames naar Schagen, waar een lastige pot tegen de Foeste Moiden op het programma stond. De Moiden maakten goed gebruik van de ruimte aan de buitenkanten en wisten al gauw op een voorsprong te komen. Nadat we in de 2e helft helaas nog wat spelers kwijtraakten, waren de-Noord Hollandse dames zo sportief om ons aan te vullen en werd de wedstrijd besloten met 40-3 in voordeel van de thuisspelende partij. De teamspirit bij the Purple Lions was nog steeds hoog en het Wageningse aandeel haastte zich gauw naar de Zoom om de laatste minuten van de RCW Dames te kunnen zien.
Op de Zoom was het namelijk een SuperSunday en nadat de heren hadden gespeeld mochten de dames op 15:00 uur aftrappen. We verwachtten een zware wedstrijd en meteen vanaf het eerste moment ging het er hard aan toe. Wageningen schoot hard uit de startblokken en wist de eerste try van de wedstrijd te drukken, en onze kicker Siri schoot daarna de conversie raak. Vanaf dat moment golfde het spel op en neer en moest er soms hard verdedigd worden en op andere momenten werden er prachtige aanvallen geplaatst. Melissa wist onze eigen herstart te vangen en af te passen naar Maria waar een mooie try uit volgde. De dames van Tilburg/Vets waren erg sterk in de rucks en wisten daar veel turnovers te forceren en maakten vervolgens handig gebruik van de gaten in onze verdediging. Na 60 minuten begon de vermoeidheid toe te slaan en stonden de tegenstanders met een aantral try’s voor. De wissels waren op maar iedereen bleef keihard voor elkaar werken; nog steeds waren we erg gevaarlijk en wisten we diep in de 22 van de tegenstander te spelen. In de laatste minuut kregen wij dan ook een scrum op 5 meter van de tryline. De voorwaartsen die al de hele wedstrijd dominant waren in de scrum wisten wat ze te doen stonden en gaven nog één keer alles in de scrum, met als resultaat dat de tegenstander over de tryline werd gepusht en we in de last-play van de wedstrijd nog een try scoorden. Op deze manier werd de wedstrijd toch nog positief afgesloten en was de eindstand 33-58.
Na de wedstrijd was er een gezellige derde helft, waar we zongen, het WK keken en genoten van een heerlijke maaltijd verzorgd door de Sunday dinner commissie. Op naar volgende week!

Men
The men’s team played on a sunny Zoom against G.S.R.C., the Groningen Student Rugby Club. In the first 20 minutes, Wageningen came out on top and it quickly became 13-0. Ladies
Despite some injuries and teammates visiting the Rugby World Cup in France, there were still two teams ready for a great day of rugby. The Purple Lions left early with 15 ladies for Schagen, where a difficult match against Foeste Moiden was scheduled. The Moiden made good use of the space on the outside and quickly managed to take the lead. After we unfortunately lost some players in the 2nd half, the North Holland ladies were sufficiently sportswomanlike to supplement us and the match was decided 40-3 in favor of the home team. The team spirit at the Purple Lions was still high and the Wageningen team quickly rushed to Zoom to watch the last minutes of the RCW Women.
On the Zoom it was a Super Sunday and after the men had played, the ladies were kicked off at 3:00 PM. We expected a tough match and it indeed was, from the very first moment. Wageningen started hard and managed to score the first try of the match, and our kicker Siri then scored the conversion. From that moment on the game waved up and down and sometimes we had to defend hard and at other times beautiful attacks were placed. Melissa managed to catch our own restart and pass it to Maria, which resulted in a nice try. The ladies of Tilburg/Vets were very strong in the rucks and managed to force many turnovers there and then made good use of the holes in our defense. After 60 minutes, fatigue started to set in and the opponents were ahead by a number of tries. We ran out of substitutions but everyone continued to work hard for each other; We were still very dangerous and managed to play deep into the opponent’s 22. In the last minute we got a scrum 5 meters from the tryline. The forwards who had been dominant in the scrum the entire match knew what they had to do and gave everything in the scrum one more time, with the result that the opponent was pushed over the tryline and we still managed to score in the last play of the match. scored a try.
