Beide damesteams hebben het de afgelopen tijd ontzettend goed gedaan en week op week mooie resultaten behaald. Afgelopen zondag was het de eerste thuiswedstrijd in Wageningen voor de Purple Lions.
De Purple Lions (dames 2) speelden op 30 november thuis op de Zoom. Met veel thuis publiek werd er een kraker van een wedstrijd gespeeld tegen de Groningse LadyBears. De Ladybears gingen als nr 1 van de poule de wedstrijd in, Purple Lions zaten ze op de hielen als nr 2. De wedstrijd begon fel voor onze dames en in de eerste helft was er een kleine voorsprong van 22-10 opgebouwd. Maar de Ladybears maakten een sterkte come back in de tweede helft en er moest hard verdedigd worden om de doorbrekende spelers terug te halen en uiteindelijk wisten de Ladybears nog terug te komen met een try in de laatste minuut, toen was het 22-20. Voor de conversie was het doodstil bij de supporters maar gelukkig voor het team in paars werd de conversie gemist en blijven de punten in Wageningen!
Dit betekent dat de eerste plek in de poule nu voor de Purple Lions is! Volgende week nog een wedstrijd.. kijken of dit kan worden vastgehouden. Bovendien kunnen ze niet meer uit de top-2 vallen waardoor er na de kerst in de promotie-poule gespeeld wordt!
De wedstrijd van dames 1 was afgelast maar de resultaten van afgelopen weken waren goed en ook de dames 1 zijn zeker van een plek in de bovenste poule in de tweede fase! Dit betekent dat ze ingedeeld worden met de bovenste helft van de eerste klasse en de onderste twee teams van de ere klasse. Een uitdagende poule waar zelfs een gooi gedaan kan worden naar promotie naar de ereklasse.
Komende zondag spelen beide teams de laatste wedstrijd van de eerste fase en dit jaar. Purple Lions moeten uit in Middelburg en dames 1 spelen thuis om 12:00 tegen de Haagsche Xtreme dames dus kom vooral aanmoedigen!
Ladies show a strong first half of the season!
Both women’s teams have performed exceptionally well recently, achieving great results week after week. Last Sunday was the first home match in Wageningen for the Purple Lions.
The Purple Lions (women’s 2) played at home on November 30th on the Zoom. Cheered on by a large home crowd, they faced a thrilling match against the Groningse LadyBears. The LadyBears entered the match as number one in the pool, with the Purple Lions close behind in second place.
The match started fiercely for our ladies, and in the first half they built a small lead of 22–10. But the LadyBears made a strong comeback in the second half, forcing our team to defend hard to stop the breaking runs. In the final minute the LadyBears scored a try, bringing the score to 22–20. Silence fell over the supporters during the conversion attempt, but luckily for the team in purple, the kick missed — meaning the points stayed in Wageningen!
This result puts the Purple Lions at the top of the pool! With one more match next week, the question is whether they can hold on to that position. They also can’t drop out of the top two anymore, meaning they will play in the promotion pool after Christmas.
The match of women’s 1 was cancelled, but their results in recent weeks have been strong as well, and they too are guaranteed a spot in the top pool for the second phase! This means they will be grouped with the top half of the first division and the bottom two teams of the premier division — a challenging pool where promotion to the premier division is even within reach.
Next Sunday both teams play their final match of the first phase and of the year. The Purple Lions play away in Middelburg, and women’s 1 play at home at 12:00 against the Haagsche Xtreme ladies — so come and cheer them on!
