Zaterdag 15 februari gingen we met de hele club op bezoek bij onze vrienden Rugby Club the Pink Panthers voor onze lustrum clubtoer. Met jong en oud een dagje ‘trip’, van guppen tot senioren. Natuurlijk met de bus; daarmee waren we al snel in Driebergen waar er leuke wedstrijden werden gespeeld en iedereen de kans kreeg om elkaar aan te moedigen. Ook naast het veld stonden leuke spelletjes klaar, zoals beschuitfluiten. Er werd een lekkere lunch verzorgd en samen rugby gekeken, waarbij de Nederlandse heren aangemoedigd werden tegen Zwitserland. Daarna weer een busrit terug naar Wageningen en nog even napraten over de gezellige dag. Met veel dank aan de Pink Panthers voor de warme ontvangst en alle vrijwilligers voor de hulp bij de organisatie!
Een wat uitgebreider verslag vanuit de Benjamins:
Na een behoorlijk koude nacht begon dan de clubtour. Om 8:35 vertrok de heerlijk verwarmde bus via Ede naar Driebergen voor de ontmoeting met de Pink Panthers uit Driebergen. Na een kleine drie kwartier waren we er. Het terrein van deze club ligt vlak langs de A12 en was makkelijk te bereiken.
De Benjamins waren helaas niet in volledige bezetting, mogelijk door de gespreide voorjaarsvakanties. Er waren 12 leden. Van te voren werden beide teams bij elkaar gezet voor een warming-up (heel goed idee bij deze kou). Men had besloten het team in tweeën te splitsen, waardoor twee aparte teams een wedstrijd tegen de Pink Panters zouden spelen (dus 6 tegen 6). Wedstrijd A werd dik gewonnen en wedstrijd B werd nipt verloren, maar beide wedstrijden lieten over het algemeen wel een stijgende lijn zien. Dat de RCW Benjamins langzamerhand een geduchte tegenstander wordt om rekening mee te houden, is overduidelijk.
Na deze wedstrijd werd een soort van alternatieve wedstrijd gespeeld; alle spelers van beide teams gingen op één lijn naast elkaar staan en werden door elkaar gehusseld. Zo ontstonden er 4 ‘nieuwe teams’ van 6 spelers, van zowel Pink Panthers als RCW-leden. Door sommige shirts binnenste buiten te keren (wit) waren er voldoende shirts met dezelfde kleur. Daarmee werd het wel lastig om bij te houden wat de uitslagen waren – maar het plezier van de kinderen was het belangrijkste en daarmee de winnaar van de dag.
Na de wedstrijden was het tijd voor het traditionele broodje knakworst. Later zou er geluncht worden en konden er live-wedstrijden worden gevolgd van de Junioren en Colts, terwijl in het clubhuis een wedstrijd was te volgen. Ook waren er tal van spelletjes georganiseerd zodat er voldoen was te beleven. De Benjamins konden door het schema helaas niet alle andere wedstrijden volgen.
De gehele sfeer op het terrein was ondanks de kou, warm te noemen. Het was één groot familiegebeuren. De complimenten gaan dus uit naar de organisatie van de Pink Phanters uit Driebergen voor de warme gastvrijheid, maar ook naar ‘onze eigen RCW voor het mogelijk maken van de trip naar Driebergen.
On Saturday 15 February, the entire club visited our friends Rugby Club the Pink Panthers for our lustrum club tour. A day trip with young and old, from guppies to seniors. Of course by bus; we quickly arrived in Driebergen where fun matches were played and everyone had the chance to cheer each other on. There were also fun games next to the field, such as whistling for rusk. A delicious lunch was provided and we watched rugby together, cheering on the Dutch men against Switzerland. Then another bus ride back to Wageningen and a chat about the fun day. Many thanks to the Pink Panthers for the warm welcome and all the volunteers for their help with the organisation!
A more extensive report from the Benjamins:
After a fairly cold night, the club tour started. At 8:35 the wonderfully heated bus left via Ede to Driebergen for the meeting with the Pink Panthers from Driebergen. After about three quarters of an hour we arrived. The grounds of this club are located right next to the A12 and were easy to reach.
Unfortunately, the Benjamins were not fully staffed, possibly due to the staggered spring holidays. There were 12 members. Both teams were put together beforehand for a warm-up (a very good idea in this cold weather). It had been decided to split the team in two, so that two separate teams would play a match against the Pink Panthers (so 6 against 6). Match A was won by a wide margin and match B was narrowly lost, but both matches generally showed an upward trend. It is very clear that the RCW Benjamins are gradually becoming a formidable opponent to be reckoned with.
After this match, a kind of alternative match was played; all players from both teams stood in a line next to each other and were mixed up. This created 4 ‘new teams’ of 6 players, from both Pink Panthers and RCW members. By turning some shirts inside out (white), there were enough shirts with the same colour. This made it difficult to keep track of the results – but the children’s enjoyment was the most important thing and therefore the winner of the day.
After the matches it was time for the traditional sausage roll. Later there would be lunch and live matches of the Juniors and Colts could be followed, while a match could be followed in the clubhouse. There were also many games organised so that there was plenty to experience. Unfortunately, the Benjamins could not follow all the other matches due to the schedule.
The entire atmosphere on the grounds was warm, despite the cold. It was one big family event. Compliments therefore go to the organisation of the Pink Phanters from Driebergen for the warm hospitality, but also to ‘our own RCW’ for making the trip to Driebergen possible.
