Op zondag 23 april hadden we een succesvolle SuperSunday in de Zoom, waar beide seniorenteams een geweldige wedstrijd speelden! We maakten ons in het begin wat zorgen over de weersvoorspelling, maar het bleef het grootste deel van de middag droog en dit zorgde voor veel supporters aan de zijlijn.
De dames begonnen een paar minuten na 13.00 tegen LSRG. De volledige ploeg van 22 in onze paarse shirts, gesponsord door @vrijheidskwartier, was meer dan klaar om te spelen en te laten zien hoe we ons spel verbeterd hadden na onze laatste wedstrijd tegen deze tegenstander. Vanaf het begin werd duidelijk dat we zeer aan elkaar gewaagd waren en dat beide teams voor elke meter op het veld moesten werken. Bij rust was de stand 7-7 en kon het echt alle kanten op; het publiek was zenuwachtig. De 2e helft speelden we grotendeels in het gebied van de tegenstander. We verloren balbezit, kregen hem weer terug en probeerden de gaten in de LSRG-verdediging te vinden, maar de tijd tikte weg. Beide partijen gaven echt alles, maar er werden geen punten gescoord in de 2e helft van de wedstrijd, dus werd de eindstand een gelijkspel 7-7! Door de loting behouden we onze 4e plaats in de promotiepoule en aangezien de top 4 promoveert zal de laatste wedstrijd van het seizoen (op 14 mei, thuis!) een heuse thriller worden om te zien of we dit seizoen promoveren.
Na deze spannende wedstrijd was het tijd voor de heren wedstrijd. De heren speelden hun laatste wedstrijd van het seizoen tegen de Big Stones uit Havelte. Alle steun aan de zijlijn juichte ons team toe naar een verbluffende overwinning van 46-10! Twee spelers scoorden hun eerste try, deze werden op gepaste wijze gevierd met een zumba! Al met al was het een goede dag om het seizoen af te sluiten en willen we alle supporters, vrienden en (rugby)familie bedanken voor hun steun. On Sunday the 23rd of april we had a successful SuperSunday at the Zoom, where both senior teams played a great match! Even though we were a bit worried at first about the weather forecast, it remained dry most of the afternoon and this led to a lot of supporters on the sidelines.
The ladies started a few minutes after 13.00 against LSRG. The full squad of 22 in our purple shirts, sponsored by @vrijheidskwartier, was more then ready to play and show how we had improved after our last game against this opponent. Right from the start it became clear we were very evenly matched and both teams had to work for every meter on the pitch. At halftime, the score was 7-7 and the game really could have gone either way – the whole crowd was biting their nails. The 2nd half we mostly played in the opponents territory. We lost possession of the ball, gained it back again and tried to find the gaps in the LSRG defense, but time was ticking away. Both sides really gave it their all but no points were scored in the 2nd half of the game, so the final score was a draw: 7-7! This means we are holding on to our 4th place spot in the promotion poule and since the top 4 promotes the final match of the season (on the 14th of May, at home!) will be a real thriller to see if we can reach promotion this season.
After this exciting game it was time for the mens game! The gents played their last match of the season against the Big Stones from Havelte. The support on the side-lines cheered our team to a stunning victory of 46-10! Two players scored their first tries, which these were properly celebrated with a zumba! All in all it was a good day to end the season and we would like to thank all the supporters, friends and (rugby) family for their support during this season.
