Het was weer ouderwets gezellig op onze jaarlijkse oudeballendag bij de club op 26 mei. De dag startte met een lekkere brunch, terwijl de oude ballen en leden langzaam binnen druppelden. Het nieuwe plan voor donateurs ‘Vrienden van RCW’ werd toegelicht, en er werd een klein tipje van de sluier opgelicht voor het lustrum seizoen door de lustrumcommissie. Daarna trokken we met z’n allen naar het veld waar de wedstrijden oud tegen jong gespeeld werden.
Het was warm en in de verte begon het al een beetje te donderen, maar het echte vuurwerk was natuurlijk op het rugbyveld op de Zoom waar alle teams super fanatiek streden voor de winst en de eeuwige roem die daaraan verbonden is. Het mooie is dat team ‘oud’ inmiddels ook veel voormalig Wageningse jeugd spelers tot zijn beschikking heeft en de teams waren daardoor zeer aan elkaar gewaagd. Wat onderlinge familie competitie mocht natuurlijk niet ontbreken, dus Vincent Hoksbergen moest het opnemen tegen zijn eigen zoons. De pot eindigde in gelijkspel. De dames speelden een spannende pot 7s (okay 8 tegen 8) en ook die lieten zien dat er zowel bij oud en jong nog steeds heel veel rugby talent rondloopt, want het ging lang gelijk op maar eindigde toch met 5-7 in winst voor jong.
Na de wedstrijden togen we met z’n allen naar het clubhuis waar er nog veel herinneringen werden opgehaald tot laat in de avond.
Hulde voor alle vrijwilligers, het was een super georganiseerde dag!
It was old-fashioned fun again at our annual Oudeballendag at the club, May 26. The day started with a delicious brunch, while the old balls and members slowly trickled in. The new plan for donors ‘Friends of RCW’ was explained, and a small glimpse of the lustrum season was lifted by the lustrum committee. Then we all went to the field where the old versus young matches were played.
It was warm and in the distance thunder was already starting to rumble a bit, but the real fireworks were of course on the rugby field on the Zoom where all the teams fought very fanatically for the win and the eternal fame that comes with it. The great thing is that the ‘old’ team now also has many former Wageningen youth players at its disposal and the teams were therefore very evenly matched. Of course, some family competition could not be missed, so Vincent Hoksbergen had to compete against his own sons. The game ended in a tie. The ladies played an exciting game of 7s (okay 8 against 8) and they also showed that there is still a lot of rugby talent among both old and young, because it went evenly for a long time but nevertheless ended in a 5-7 win for the young team.
After the matches we all went to the clubhouse where many memories were made until late in the evening.
Kudos to all volunteers, it was a super organized day!
